Who We Are

#Girltalktakeover, an effort created by Angela Simmons and Kerri Berson Levine for hundreds of inner city girls, has partnered with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and RWJBarnabas Health to launch an emergency fundraising campaign to give much needed relief to NJ healthcare workers and hospitals battling Coronavirus (COVID-19). Funds raised will be used to provide individually packaged meals and live-streamed musical performances to the healthcare heroes on the frontlines, as well as provide other supplies to assist with the fight against COVID-19 and protect those caring for patients and communities.

Join us in support of the 44,000 employees, clinicians, and physicians of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, our long time health and nutrition sponsor, and RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey's most comprehensive healthcare system. It is #girltalktakeover's turn to support healthcare heroes as they risk their lives each day to save ours — and yours.

What Our Hospitals Are Facing

In New Jersey, the number of COVID-19 cases has now surpassed 40,000, with the death toll above 1,000, making ours the second hardest-hit state in the country.  As a result, New Jersey hospitals are at near capacity, and local supplies of needed equipment are tragically diminished. In addition, global shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, face shields, and other essential gear are increasing the anxiety of those working tirelessly to treat patients and save our communities.

Music...

Healthcare professionals are working under almost unimaginably stressful conditions. Research has shown that music seems to slow heart rate, lower blood pressure and reduce levels of stress hormones. Studies at the Mayo Clinic found that music helps ease anxiety and pain. That’s why we are arranging for musicians to present messages and concerts that will be made available for healthcare workers. Globally acclaimed and local musicians will bolster the spirits of our healthcare heroes as they save lives.

We'll also be providing pre-packaged meals from local restaurants (to help support the local business community and their employees), so our healthcare heroes can eat "on the go" — because if it isn't "on the go" doctors and nurses are sometimes not eating at all during their long shifts, depleting their energy and immune systems.

Personal protective equipment, ventilators, and hotel rooms for hospital workers who cannot go home are just some of the other incredibly pressing needs we will be funding with this initiative. 

How You Can Help

     $10 will cover the cost of hand sanitizer and masks to ensure employee safety

     $15 will provide 1 nourishing meal for 1 employee and a live healing concert

     $30 provides 2 nourishing meals and a live healing concert

     $50 provides 4 nourishing meals and a live healing concert

     $100 provides 8 nourishing meals and a live healing concert

     $3000 provides 200 nourishing meals and live healing concerts for the entire staff

​100% of proceeds from this campaign go directly to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and RWJBarnabas Health.
